It’s going to shorten travel time as you hop across big cities in Davao region once operational.
Mindanao Railway System plan has been changed, and the first phase will be built along the areas Tagum City, Davao del Sur, and Digos City. The Chinese recently released a map of the railway project via PTV Facebook page.
Last October 15, 2016, Mindanao Economic Boom posted a list of computed travel time between cities should Mindanao Railway operate on 100 kilometer-per-hour speed. It revealed that Davao and Cagayan de Oro city will just be more or less 2 and a half hour away. Cagayan de Oro to Iligan which usually takes 2 hour and a half hour of travel will be reduced to not more than 56 minutes. See this post HERE.
The new railway plan, as mentioned by Mindanao Development Authority, will have a train operating on a speed more than 250 kph. With a high-speed train, travel time between Davao and Cagayan de Oro for instance will be reduced to less than 2 and a half hour. The Mindanao Railway System will further improve the connectivity between cities in Mindanao, as Mindanao Development Authority envisioned it to be.
As for the first phase line, MEB calculated hypothetical travel time once the high-speed train will be operational. In this computation, we based the average speed on the International Union of Railways‘ (UIC) identification of a high-speed rail. See photo below:
Digos City to Tagum usually runs 2 hours and 35 minutes along the 107-kilometer Pan-Philippine highway. Granting that a high-speed train will course along coastal areas, the said cities will be just 26-minutes apart. Davao going to Tagum city is about 2 hours away, but with a high-speed railway, the travel time will just be 19 minutes.
High-speed train is just one of several types of trains. In long distance travel, high-speed railway is more viable than customary trains which is usually found in cities or within the metro. Generally, high speed rail runs at speeds above 200 km/h (120 mph) operating on dedicated track specially constructed to accommodate high speed travel.
