Siagao Island boardwalk

SIARGAO ISLAND – The nation’s surfing capital, Siargao Island is proving to anybody that the island is not known as one of the world’s best hotspots for pro surfers, but adding to its prominent name is the looming 2-kilometre mangrove boardwalk to be considered as the longest kind in the Philippines.

In an article published by the Business Mirror last July 25, 2017, the Department of Tourism (DOT) disclosed the information that the construction of the 2-kilometre mangrove boardwalk is already ongoing in the vast mangrove area of Del Carmen, Siargao Island.

The said project is part of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority’s (Tieza) mandate to develop Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZ) like Siargao Island. Along with this project is the Siargao Sports Complex and a convention center which both are being eyed to finish before the end of 2018.

Del Carmen, Siargao Islands holds the record of having the largest mangrove forest in the Philippines with 4,000 hectares. There is no doubt that the longest mangrove boardwalk will also soon place a special part in strengthening Siargao’s feat as a unique tourism destination in the Philippines. – MEB Admin CARAGA
