The statement made by Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio regarding Davao Coastline cancellation shook netizens not only from Davao but in the entire Mindanao as well.

It can be recalled that the Davao Coastline project was one of the three most-awaited big ticket projects in the city. Excitement filled netizens of different regions in Mindanao.

John Ludwig Bardoquillo Pormento of General Santos City wanted the project to start soon. The Davao Coastline would “spill over” progress to nearby cities such as General Santos.

Cris Sy of Cagayan de Oro City hoped there would be similar project in the soon-to-be metro Cagayan de Oro.

Several netizens expressed pride. Darwin Rhight remarked “ganito kami sa Davao”.

Kim Jasper M. Reyes said that Davao is the next Singapore in Asia.

John Epundolan said Davao is incomparable to Cagayan de Oro.

Davao Coastline cancellation

On July 25, the statement made by Mayor Sara baked various reactions from Netizens. Some netizens supported the mayor’s decision while some criticized her for terminating the project deal.

Marcus Reyes was very disappointed, citing that Davao “will forever be a province.”

Dang Davao, the internet troll from Davao City who was paid to mock Cagayan de Oro city in every Facebook page, laments over the cancellation.

Kristina Luz Hilario Marcos supports Mayor Sara’s decision.

Alfred Corporal believed there is an alternative plan.

According to Mayor Sara’s statement, “the decision came after about more that a year of careful review and study of the available documents and after weighing out theintentions of the project against its commercial viability, legal and social implications, and the project’s possible effects to the environment.”

The decision was made in relation to the adverse effects to the environment of the said project.
